Dalhousie is a 13th century fortified castle imaginatively converted to a luxurious country hotel.
There are now 27 individually decorated bedrooms relying heavily on Scottish fabrics, tartan, tweed and twill, and set off with period furniture. All, of course, have en suite bathroom facilities and all modern conveniences.
All TeeTime Scotland visitors have commented on the wonderful atmosphere of the barrel vaulted dungeon, with walls bearing armour and weapons, which is now the hotel's main restaurant. The food is pretty good too with local salmon, venison, grouse and beef featuring often. Less formal dining is available in the Orangery which overlooks the river South Esk and the castle's parkland.
Dalhousie Castle was the first in Scotland to install a hydro spa and this includes a multi-massage jet pool, a Roman-style sauna, Turkish steam room and Tropical Rain and Cold Fog Shower though quite why a hotel so close to Edinburgh should feel the need to install this inside when it is freely available outside, I don't know. Various beauty, hairdressing and aromatherapy treatments are also available. |
